Natural Causes by James Oswald (Inspector McLean Mystery)
I was intrigued by this author’s regular Twitter posts as he is also a farmer in the Scottish Highlands and turned to crime writing after writing comic scripts, fantasy and science fiction. So I decided to give him a go and am pleased I did. His main character, Detective Inspector Tony McLean is likeable, stubborn and clever. This is the first in a series and it cleverly blends McLean’s cold case of a young girl’s mutilated body which has been found by builders in a locked room, with a series of very bloody contemporary killings. The office politics are nicely drawn as is his interesting backstory which explains how he comes into great wealth during the book. I shall be reading more James Oswald.
